We are Free - Sydney Blanson
Freedom is the road we need to take. She's like a bright light at the end of the railroad tunnel.
Working on the fields
for 8 cents an hour.
There's no way we can be free.
No education and no rights for anything. All we do is sit and work, love and forgive.
I can smell the hate from the government, the community, myself. He’s eating me up with lies.
Our skin color is different not our hope. Our hair is different not our faith. Our speech is different not our hearts.
When we walk down the street we feel like we are worth nothing.Like being alive is a sin. Why does racism affect us.
We are all children of God. We are all equal. We are all a family.
We are all free, like a butterfly spreading it's wings.
The purpose of this poem is to show the cruelty that the government made the African Americans endure during their lifetime. The poem is stating that its connection to the movement is how slaves had to put up with the mistreatment and that no one cared what their opinion was. I used personification and simile.

The Inspiration- Trey Jones
We live in a world,
where color determines everything.
Where the “American Dream” no longer exists.
Where men are no longer free.
Where you are judged by your looks and not your internal make-up.
Where pigmentation is a factor.
Our Nation needs an Inspiration.
Going through the same arguments are getting old.
White men are getting bold.
The Colored man needs an Inspiration.
The Inspiration for success.
The Colored man is not a factor,
like a fly on a wall.
Hard work is no longer a matter.
Determination is no longer the contractor.
Pigmentation shapes the Inspiration of our Nation.
This purpose of this poem is to explain that the American Dream was obliterated when it came to the concept of African Americans. This country was once a fortress of righteousness, but evolved into a hell that was slowly fortifying. This poem connects to our movement through the examples of discrimination and cruel mistreatment that African Americans withstood. I used multiple poetic devices such as: personification, simile, repetition, and rhyme.
